The clock struck zero. The Dallas Mavericks had just won the 2011 NBA Championship. Finally, Mark Cuban had accomplished the goal he had set out when he had purchased the Dallas Mavericks more than a decade ago. The team, led for years by Dirk Nowitski and Jason Terry were now holding the golden ball, defeating the Miami Heat in Game 6 of the NBA Finals. These two had been leading this franchise for years, so now had they finally won an NBA championship after years of playoff disappointment?

If you watched all of the Mavericks games in the 2011 playoffs, you knew it was no accident. Nowitski played out of his mind the entire playoffs, including the Finals. Jason Kidd became a three point shooter all of sudden, once playoff time came around. Jason Terry continued his deadly shooting and scoring, as has always been his trademark. Finally, but most important, the Mavericks made a commitment on the defensive end of the floor with the acquisitions of Tyson Chandler and DeShaun Stevenson. The difference they made when they were in the lineup, combined with the explosive energy of backup Point Guard J.J. Berea made the Dallas Mavericks into NBA Champions.

With the 2011-2012 season coming into its final stretch and the 2012 NBA Playoffs quickly approaching, it is as good a time as ever to take a look back at last season’s NBA Playoffs. Under the heightened spotlight and pressure of the playoffs, many players stood out for their teams and made a new name for themselves, some good and some not so good.

Dirk Nowitzki, who had previously held the unbecoming reputation of choking in the biggest moments, became the darling of the NBA, taking out the NBA’s villainous Miami Heat en route to his first championship ring and NBA Finals MVP award.Check out this link here. Dirk took his game to a new level in the playoffs, averaging 27.7 points and 8.1 rebounds per game.

Lebron James, on the other hand, stood out equally as much for his performance in the NBA Finals, particularly for his shortcomings in the fourth quarters of games. After averaging 26.7 points per game during the regular season for the Heat, James only scored 17.8 points per game in the finals, disappearing from games entirely at times. Lebron’s drop-off in points per game from the regular season to the finals, 8.9 points, was the largest in the history of the league.

Oct. 5, 2010 vs. Portland – This was Griffin’s first dunk of his career and it certainly led to a lot more.

Preseason 2009 @ Los Angeles Lakers – This dunk of Mbenga was certainly poster worthy and had the whole world buzzing.

Dec. 22, 2010 @ Houston Rockets – This alley oop was one of the wildest ones that Griffin has ever completed in his career.

Nov. 20, 2010 vs. New York Knicks

This put back was absolutely filthy and Stoudemire had no idea what hit him.

Oct. 29, 2009 vs. New Orleans Hornets

This may have caused an injury but this block, steal, dunk combination was definitely among his best plays of his career.

Oct. 27, 2010 vs. Portland Trail Blazers

This put back was definitely something Blazers fans will never forget.

Jan. 5, 2010 vs. Denver Nuggets

Carmelo Anthony was certainly shocked to see Griffin get up THAT high.

Oct. 16, 2010 vs. Utah Jazz

This dunk against the Jazz was one of the best dunks that you will ever see in the NBA.

2011 vs New York Knicks

This spin move with a dunk was dubbed as one of the best plays of all time in the NBA.

There have been some great NBA rookies that have stepped on an NBA court. These players have been some of the best rookies of all time, and their legacy will never be forgotten. Below is a list of the best rookies that have ever played the game.

Coming in at number five is Michael Jordan. He is synonymous with the Bulls and helped them out tremendously in his rookie season coming out of North Carolina. He is arguably the best player that has ever played the game, but was not the best rookie to ever play it. He had a sensational season and averaged 28.2 points per game.

Coming in at number four is none other than Larry Bird. The Celtics went an incredible 61-21 with Bird leading the way. He revitalized the Celtics organization and will always be a legend inside the NBA.

Coming in at number three is Oscar Robinson. Robinson averaged an impressive 30.5 points per game, 10.1 rebounds per game, and 9.7 assists per game. Coming in at number two is Lew Alcindor. He averaged 28.8 points per game with 14.5 rebounds per game. He also improved the Bucks record to 56-26.

Coming in at number one is Wilt Chamberlain. In only his first season, he was named MVP, Rookie of the Year, and First-team-All-NBA. He averaged an incredible 37.6 points per game and set the record in rebounds with a total of 1,941. All of these accolades make him the greatest NBA rookie to ever play the game.

If you’re ready to host an NBA tipoff party you’ve got to get all your ducks in a row. You’re going to have to come up with a game plan to ensure your party goes off without incident unlike last year’s debacle Here are our tips for hosting the NBA party to end all NBA parties:
Get the games: There’s nothing worse for a sports related party than not getting the big game or even the obscure one your buddy Jim wants to watch. Get satellite through Direct TV or another provider to ensure you get access to all the games.Plan the Party: Food, decor, parking it all needs to be considered when you’re planning your NBA party so nothing goes untouched. Serve easy finger foods and don’t fuss over decor – the highlight needs to be the games.
Get your invites out early: There’s no reason not to let everyone know about your party way ahead of time so they can plan for it – there will likely be other parties that weekend, too. Send out evites or even Facebook invitations.
